The following information outlines the requirements of a cook within the Light of The World Community Centre Ltd

Chef – Objectives

To provide a professional service as the qualified cook for the community centre’s needs particularly children of nursery the elderly, and staff.

Chef – Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities:

* Contributing to the daily smooth running of the kitchen services.

* Supervision of trainees/students/volunteers and helping them to work as a team in all areas of work that is connected to the kitchen.

Chef – Supervision and Guidance:

Day to day support will be provided by the Project Manager.

RANGE OF DECISION MAKING

The day to day decisions on meal preparation/special diets in accordance with the needs of the centre, budgeting, stocktaking and to ensure the relevant Health and Safety procedures are carried out.

RESPONSIBLE FOR ASSETS, MATERIAL ETC

* Responsible for the kitchen equipment and food stock.

* Carrying out daily checks to ensure that the fridge, freeze, microwave and cooker are operating correctly.

* Carry out health and safety checks to ensue that there are no infestations of insects.

* Weekly stock taking.

* Cleaning.

* Ensure files for inspection are up to date.

* Report any breakage of equipments and complete the breakage log book.

KITCHEN FACILITIES

The kitchen is spacious, purpose built with modern facilities and situated on the ground floor near the entrance of the community centre.

The kitchen will be managed by the cook/chef who will oversee services for our nursery, luncheon club, other centre users and drop in service. The kitchen provides services for the nursery children, after school and holiday care, staff and users of the services within the community centre.

The chef/cook must possess:

* Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods.

* Knowledge of food allergy and preparation.

* The requirement of the Safer Food, Better Business requirements.

* Able to communicate at all levels.

* Provide a weekly menu for the nursery and centre users.

* Keep records of checks carried out.

* Clean kitchen to (Spec)

* Ensure weekly stock take is carried out and all food products checked to ensure that they are in date.

* Provide a weekly menu for meals

* There are other duties that you are required to perform, which are not logged but which you will be required to undertake for the smooth running of the kitchen
