As a Senior Software Developer (Big Data) you will be working within the Cloud Services team. You will be responsible for leading and participating in the development of our ground breaking Big Data platform. The first of its kind in UK policing, West Midlands Police are working to pull together an unprecedented amount of data in to a Big Data solution which will provide historic and real-time reporting and intelligence. There will be an expectation for you to be a technical lead and bring extensive knowledge to the team, both in terms of existing technologies already in use as well as alternative methods which could bring about service improvement.

We'd really welcome your application if you:

* Have experience in developing analytics solutions within a Big Data platform

* Have a sound understanding and experience with SQL

* Have experience in Java / Scala for developing Spark or Flink data pipelines

* Have the ability to translate business requirements into software designs

* Have extensive and up-to-date knowledge of open source data analytics software stacks ideally including, Spark, Flink, Kafka, Kudu, Hive, Impala, Solr, HBase, Cassandra

* Have experience with AWS

* Are inquisitive, enjoy getting involved, learning new tech and like adding value

* Have acted as a mentor to more junior developers

* Have good interpersonal and communication skills
