PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Safety Support Media Specialists are the focal point for the management of recorded data from the Operational environment. Data is released to various internal departments and authorised external partners to give direct evidential support to formal safety investigations and for the purposes of safety improvement/competency. To achieve this, the post-holders will work closely with customers across Swanwick, Prestwick, Military and external agencies.

The Safety Support Media Specialists are required to securely impound data which is involved with sensitive investigations for multiple agencies. The Safety Support Media Specialists produce copies, extracts and replays of ATC recordings from the operational archive. The team is responsible for the storage of the team’s removable computer systems media (analogue and digital) used within the operational ATC system, various support systems at Swanwick & Prestwick and as required for stakeholders such as Technical Services, external authorities (e.g. CAA) and airline operators.

Due to the location of equipment necessary for the role, it is expected that this role will be undertaken from the Swanwick site.

ACCOUNTABILITIES
Safety Media specialism:
1. Responsible for accurate duplication of Operational recordings.
2. Search data recordings for pertinent evidence, then produce extracts for investigations in order to swiftly understand what happened and support the operation to prevent any reoccurrence. Production and delivery of data recordings & audio (voice) extracts. Production and delivery of workstation display replays, including setting up AC replay facility for other staff where required.
3. Video production using recorded data.
4. Produce bespoke material (video, pictures, voice extracts, reports) in support of ART (for the Centres Safety Improvement team), safety meetings (as requested by Head of Safety Performance & Investigation) and any project requirements. This media may be sent off-unit for aviation safety improvement purposes.
5. Production and delivery of extracts to support the Unit Competency Assessments (UCA) process within NMOCS.
6. Controlling the formal media impound release process and records in line with department process, Company process and CAA regulatory requirements. Administration of various types of media. Monitor and manage appropriate electronic storage facilities, such that all required data/information is maintained or deleted as per appropriate processes. Maintenance of accurate records of the movement of all items held within the storage system. As part of the team, provide advice to projects to ensure that regulatory requirements for control and impounding of safety media are understood and will be met for future changes.
7. Provide specialist advice/support on the topic of safety media. Contribute to maintenance of departmental processes within the Operations Management System (OMS) for all aspects of the role.

Safety performance:
8. Undertake activities relating to weekly/monthly/quarterly safety performance reporting and/or ad-hoc STAR queries across Operations in a timely and accurate manner to support the provision of a safe and effective ATM operation, as agreed with the Safety Performance Specialist.
9. Support managers and colleagues within SP&I for other relevant activities/requests.

Other support to safety investigations:
10. Receive training and input relevant data into the STAR database, as agreed with Manager Ops Safety Investigations.
11. Distribute initial and final investigation reports (redacted where necessary) to Centres staff and CAA, as agreed with Manager Ops Safety Investigations.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND PERSONAL QUALITIES
1. Demonstrate competence in the use of standard IT packages.
2. Have some knowledge of the operating principles and concepts of operational recording systems. It would be desirable to have an understanding of working at an operational ATC facility and an appreciation of the importance of the data recorded. It would be desirable to have experience of utilising video software rendering systems (e.g. Adobe Premier Pro, Camtasia, etc.).
3. Possess highly effective organisational and administrative skills. Commitment to the task and flexibility is essential, as is a high degree of commitment to customer satisfaction. Be confident working within a small team in a complex operation with a high degree of autonomy and with minimal day-to-day supervision. Positive approach to initiating and supporting change.
4. Have a proven ability to communicate in a clear and precise manner and demonstrate confidence in working with staff at all levels. Ability to understand the requirements of target audience. Discretion when dealing with sensitive safety-related material and able to contribute to positive safety culture across the Company.
