Location: Remote (on site in Southampton optional)

We are currently recruiting for a Head of Media and PR, to work with our client, a leading Russel Group University for an interim period of circa 6 months. The purpose of this role is to raise global awareness of the University and it's people among key stakeholder audiences through the implementation of relevant strategies. I am seeking someone who is able to lead on crisis media management, advising the university's leadership teams as required in order to protect the University's reputation.

As Head of Media and PR, you will manage a team of 6 and therefore a natural ability to support, mentor and guide the team as required is an essential criterion for this role.

Key duties will include but will not be limited to;

Develop, implement and manage the University-wide PR communications and media strategy to ensure a consistent and impactful approach to narrative.
Lead the team to deliver a full range of high quality and engaging PR content across a wide range of channels and platforms.
Build professional links with relevant media outlets, especially with senior editorial staff; raise their awareness of the University and negotiate opportunities for features of strategic importance in quality local, national and international media.
Lead the development of key communications channels including social media to deliver PR content.
Provide professional advice and guidance to senior staff on communications best practice, including multimedia, preparing for live media opportunities and championing the University brand.
Maximise opportunities to promote the University – includes Public Affairs, Internal Communications, Digital, Marketing and Alumni Relations.
Build and nurture a high performing team through proactive line management. Plus, matrix manage and lead other communications colleagues in the organisation where appropriate.
Lead crisis media management to effectively manage planned and unplanned situations that may impact the University's reputation.
Provide regular performance reports on the measurable impact of media and PR activities to the Director and the University Executive.
