Temporary Chef

Temporary Chef – QA Hospital Portsmouth
We currently have a great opportunity to join the team at QA Hospital with an immediate start. This role will be for at least 3 months with a view to extend.
The salary is £14 per hour (negotiable).
What you will be doing –
* Communicate information relating to food service requirements to staff and other members of the public both verbally and by telephone.
* Notifying the person in charge on any discrepancies from receipt and distribution of catering supplies.
* Organise own work tasks or activities and show initiative, while also supporting other members of staff to complete their tasks or activities.
* Provide information to various stakeholders on food service including recipes, ingredients, and allergen information.
* Undertake surveys or audits as necessary e.g., customer satisfaction.
* Responsible for the correct operation of kitchen equipment.
* Adherence to standardised recipes whilst ensuring the most economical use of provisions.
* Oversee the serving of food and the maintaining good portion control and presentation of the food served.
* Cook food to the highest standard, by following recipes, production planning and allergen information.
* Take a lead role in chef theatre cooking, special and theme menus.
* Secure work area at the end of the working shift and the area is left clean and tidy.
* Lifting and storing of heavy provisions.
* Ensure health and safety regulations and safe working practices are adhered too and report any health and safety issues to the person in charge.
* Ensure equipment is cleaned properly and ‘fit for use’ by the start of next shift.
* Maintain temperature and HACCP records.
* Taking charge of the department in the absence of the person in charge.
* Prepare patient special diets and provide information to dieticians, ward staff and housekeepers.
* Report maintenance defects to helpdesk.
* Carry out internal ordering of provisions in the absence of the person in charge.
What we need from you –
Qualifications
• City & Guilds NVQ 3 in Cookery or equivalent for the Catering Industry
• Food Safety Certificate Level 2
• Allergen Level 2 Training
• Significant experience in catering environments producing for large numbers
• Ability to work on own initiative, Able to produce high standards of work in a pressurised environment, ability to understand the needs of the customers in the hospital environment
The working pattern for the role is 7 days on, 2 days off, 8 days, 4 days off with shifts of 6am – 2pm, 8am – 4pm and 11am – 7pm
