Location: Chichester
Hours: Monday to Friday 9am – 5.30pn

Our client are on a journey of continuous improvement and they are looking to recruit a creative Senior Press Officer to primarily support the Adult Services and Public Health directorate.

Key Skills:

Excellent communication skills including highly developed written and verbal communication skills, negotiation, and persuasion skills. Ability to assimilate and communicate in a clear manner a variety of complex issues, both concisely and effectively to a range of audiences. Creativity and the ability to translate raw data and complex information into meaningful communications.
Excellent sensitivity and diplomacy skills in order to provide confidential and non-partisan advice in what can be a complex political environment. Political insight and understanding, with the ability to establish credibility to work closely with Members and officers at all levels of the service on sensitive and confidential matters.
Ability to organise and prioritise work, co-ordinate a variety of tasks in a clear and logical way, and meet tight deadlines to minimise the disruption to the business.
Ability to think creatively and innovatively. Able to adapt to changing situations in a measured and flexible manner. Able to evolve advice and guidance to suit any change in business needs.
Highly computer literate with sound and accurate IT skills. Able to carry out research, analyse highly complex documents and information, produce reports and create electronic presentations.
A thorough understanding and ability to use digital media and equipment to film, edit, create content and post on social media channels.

Qualifications and/or experience:

National Council Training for Journalists (NCTJ) or similar journalistic qualification (equivalent to graduate level), or have experience demonstrating a thorough understanding of media activities and communication styles.
CIPR Diploma in Public Relations or equivalent qualification – Desirable
Significant experience working as a journalist, press officer or communications officer producing high quality accurate and timely communications which are fit for purpose for a range of audiences and channels.
Thorough working knowledge of the wider environment, the functions and structure of national and local government and of organisational policies, practices and procedures, including the consultation and engagement process.
Experience and confidence in providing detailed communications advice and guidance to a range of clients across a range of subjects.
Experience of acting as a spokesperson for an organisation, ensuring clear and positive presentation.
Experience of working in a Local Government communications role or a similar complex organisation.
Experience of print media, sub-editing skills, radio production, digital photography and video editing.
