Temporary – Full time (40 hours per week)

What we need:
Are you passionate about ecology and environmental conservation? Do you have experience in ecological site surveys and a deep understanding of relevant legislation and survey techniques? If so, we are looking for an Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) to join our clients team. The company are involved in major highways projects around the UK in several locations like Suffolk, Hertfordshire, Kent and the West Midlands 
 
What you will do:
·As an Ecological Clerk of Works, you will be responsible for:
·Conducting ecological site surveys, including protected species surveys, Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA), and Phase 1 habitat surveys.
·Providing site checks and conducting destructive searches as necessary to ensure compliance with ecological protection measures.
·Ensuring strict compliance with relevant legislation, planning conditions, and associated documents to minimize risks and project delays.
·Supervising contractors and ensuring they adhere to protected species license requirements and environmental protection measures.
·Offering expert advice to construction and clearance teams regarding ecological constraints, mitigation strategies, and enhancement opportunities.
·Generating and contributing to comprehensive reports related to ecological findings and compliance.
·Demonstrating a strong knowledge of ecology, relevant legislation, survey techniques, and the planning process.
·Engaging with various stakeholders, including Wildlife Trusts, Environmental Health Officers, Natural England, Heritage England, Environment Agency, Lead Local Flood Authorities, and others.

What you will need:
To excel in this role, you should have:
·A degree in ecology or a related field.
·Proven experience in ecological site surveys, including protected species surveys, PEA, and Phase 1 habitat surveys.
·Experience as an Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) is highly desirable.
·In-depth knowledge of ecological legislation, survey techniques, and the planning process.
·Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with various stakeholders.
·Excellent organisational and project management skills.
·The flexibility to travel to project sites as needed.
·A commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development.
