ESS Recruit’s client is a leading project developer and asset manager in the renewable gas market within UK and Ireland. Developing agricultural renewable energy projects which guarantee biogas project success for modern farmers, supporting sustainable farming businesses on the route to net zero.

Using a fully funded business model they provide end to end project management, from initial feasibility, design and planning to regulatory and construction aspects, onto full operation. Rethinking the way anaerobic digestion is integrated into progressive farms.

The company is now looking to recruit an experienced Commercial Development Manager to lead and drive all commercial, marketing and business development activity with Estate Managers, Land Agents and across the farming community validating the viability of biogas to grid opportunities.

Job description
 
The purpose of this role is to identify opportunities for promotion of biogas development, validate feasibility whilst supporting clients through planning, development, funding and construction.

Key Objectives of the Role
 
• Identify and engage Estate Manager, Private Farms and Land Agents
• Identify suitable sites and make approaches to secure deals.
• Validate location is suitable for biogas to grid development.
• Sign Exclusivity Agreements, Lease Heads of Terms, and other relevant Legal documentation
• Support financial modelling to demonstrate the value proposition.
• Oversee pre-planning applications and confirm no “red flags” with Local Authorities.
• Oversee the internal governance process.
• ‘Hand hold’ clients through planning, development, funding, and construction.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Excellent networking capabilities
• Strong communication and presentation skills, ability to influence and persuade in person.
• A “people person” capable of delivering long lasting relationships.
• Capable of working with minimal supervision and using their own initiative
• Resilient and driven.
• Ability to transform ideas into concrete commercial opportunities.
• Minimum 5 years relevant experience in a similar area or at least the land / farming sector.
• Experience in business planning / financial modelling would be advantageous but not essential.
• Openness to change with a strong innovation mind-set.

This role would be suited to a candidate already working with prospective clients, albeit in a different capacity i.e. Estate Management, Land Management, Farm Capital Equipment, Agri-Tech or Farm Funding. With some 'green' credentials, possibly having worked in AD/Biogas projects or similar technologies such as wind husbandry or commercial solar.

This role will be remote however attendance on site will be required from time to time therefore the ideal candidate would need to be able to commute in and around the Scottish Borders. This is a full-time position offering an attractive salary.
