Monday to Friday ; 09.00am – 17.00pm

37.5 hours per year, 52 weeks per year

Job Purpose

To organise and supervise the commercial establishment in accordance with the standard required by Vertas and statutory regulations.

To be responsible for the preparation, cooking and service of food, adhering to Health & Safety and food safety legislation.

To lead a team of catering assistants and to ensure that efficient and economic use is made of all resources.

Key Responsibilities

This job description sets out examples of tasks that may be expected of a Catering Supervisor. Catering units are organised differently and are of differing sizes and complexity, therefore the precise range of tasks carried out will vary in accordance with the needs of the service.
The generic Job description is applicable to the basic duties carried out by every Catering Supervisor. In some units there are additional duties and responsibilities many of which arise from the scale of catering operations undertaken as well as specific duties.

Service Provision
§ Management of the unit to include: monitoring hygiene standards, staff training, and all day to day operations of the unit.
§ To lead a team where appropriate in the preparation, cooking where applicable, vending and other service requirements to the customer.

Premises and Equipment
To take responsibility for the standards of cleanliness and hygiene of kitchen premises and equipment whilst maintaining sufficient stock levels of cleaning materials.

Inform the office when new or replacement items of equipment, crockery and cutlery may be required.
To ensure the safe and correct use of equipment and comply with the reporting procedure for it’s repair and maintenance
Recording and reporting all incidents following the Vertas procedures.

Administration & Finance
To order all food and other commodities required from designated suppliers
To be responsible for stock control including detailed monthly stock checks, ensuring deliveries are put away, stock rotated and incoming goods checked for quality, quantity, dated and recorded. Taking necessary actions where required.
To operate and control stocks, stock records and ensure correct completion and submission of all appropriate returns and records to the target dates identified.
To manage the operation of till points where appropriate, ensuring secure cash handling procedures are adhered to.
To ensure correct banking procedures, where appropriate, are followed.
To manage vending operations where appropriate to include, machine cleanliness, maintenance, cost controls and cash handling.
Controlling and managing Food Costs and Labour Budgets.
Compiling and following any necessary rotas to ensure the smooth running of the unit within pre determined staffing scale.

Marketing & Merchandising

To develop a positive relationship with the customers and client in order to ensure the needs of the service are met.

To actively promote menus, promotional days and any additional catering services available

People Management

Develop and maintain team work and morale.

Ensure all other training requirements are covered /referred to line manager

To attend meetings and training courses as required.

Any other duties

Any other duties which may be reasonably required by your line manager
