Unique opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a fast moving, innovative impact business “about to boom”. Oceanium has just closed a highly successful Seed Fundraising round with and is seeking committed and passionate team members as we further our R&D and scale up our New Product Development with focus on all-natural plant based food products. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Food Scientist/R&D Manager with technical, creative and organizational skills to join our senior team.
An experienced NPD / R&D Manager you ideally will have experience of plant based foods and/or protein extraction with the ability to demonstrate your experience of both concept and process. You must bring creativity to the role leading the site team with energy and enthusiasm whilst managing complex projects including R&D to ensure innovation concept is brought to fruition.
The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:
Ideally R&D/ NPD experience with alternative protein and plant-based food development
Concept and process experience with a strong food scientific and sensory background
1st Class project management skills with the ability to create and execute longer term R&D projects and manage labs
Effective people leader with ability to create a high-performance mid-set within the team
Significant experience and knowledge of alternative proteins and extraction processes would also be beneficial
Results orientated with excellent prioritisation skills
Must be willing to relocate/spend weekdays in at their labs in Oban.
Degree in Food Science / similar
Role Responsibilities
As the R&D/ NPD Manager in this emerging business and industry you will manage the New Foods & New Product Development
Use creative abilities and research methods to improve existing food products and develop new products to meet the needs of the company's target markets;
Manage day-to-day food science NPD and operations, in-house and delivered by contractors
Ensure food science R&D quality, record keeping, and knowledge capture to support IP protection
Ensure rigorous scientific methods, validation, experimental design and data reporting by all staff
Coordinate with R&D team to provide resources required to deliver on time
Input to patent applications
Support development of new project proposals, including project workplans and budgets
Manage product testing and trials, assessing the materials used, the efficiency of the process, and the effectiveness of the final product;
Present research and technical information at external and internal events;
Stay informed on what is happening in the research and development field in order to ensure the business is up-to-date and current with the most advanced R&D developments;
Budgeting and cost forecasting of technical development or research programs;
Scoping of improved technologies used by suppliers, competitors, and customers
