Mencap is the UK’s leading learning disability charity. We’re looking for a highly motivated, proactive and enthusiastic media professional to join our busy press office. As well as working to shape the news agenda on issues such as social care, healthcare and bullying, our team exists to invite the public to really get to know people with a learning disability through profiling them in the media.

The role is a full time (37.5 hour per week – flexibility required for the needs of the role) permanent contract and will be based in London (EC1Y) with home working flexibility. 

You will have experience of delivering a high quality press office service and be able to work under pressure. You will need to be able to identify and respond to stories as they break, using your judgement to educate media about learning disability and promote and protect Mencap’s brand and reputation. You will feel confident with dealing with a variety of enquires and be able to spot exciting opportunities. 

You will be used to working closely with colleagues to understand and translate complex issues into media plans and materials, using concise and clear language that can cut through to our audiences. You’ll have the skills to adapt your message depending on format and audience.  You will monitor the news agenda looking for relevant opportunities and issues to bring forward new ideas.

We’re looking for someone who can support and empower people with a learning disability to be our spokespeople – enabling them speak on a variety of issues to the media.

This role will close for shortlisting on 5th Jan 2022 and interviews will commence on 17th and 18th Jan 2022 via Microsoft Teams.
