Landmarc manage and maintain over 220,000 hectares of land across the United Kingdom on behalf of the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (part of the Ministry of Defence). This land is used to provide realistic and challenging terrain for military training and comprises of some of the most important and remote landscapes in the country.

In addition to the camps, buildings and ranges required by training personnel, the estate supports over 70,000 hectares of habitats of international importance, over 750 scheduled monuments ranging from prehistoric burials to first world war practice trenches and hundreds of miles of public rights of way across the UK.

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team based at West Tofts (IP26 5EP) near Thetford in Norfolk as a Rural Maintenance Manager delivering a range of maintenance and management activities across both the rural and built estate.

As Rural Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for developing, planning and delivering the Rural Estates Task Schedule across the entire East region, utilising both bought in service and in house labour.

Typical tasks could include but are not limited to, Planned and Reactive works across the East Region, covering assets such as woodland, health and Safety tree zones and individual trees, forestry plantations, tarmac roads, tracks, fencing, public rights of way, bridges and Scheduled Monuments. Also contributing towards a programme of conservation works across the SSSI, Historic environment and Forestry Harvesting.

Main Responsibilities
Manage a team of skilled operatives and  be responsible for (but not limited to) managing performance, attendance, behaviour, capability, welfare, health and safety and record keeping
To manage planned, preventative and reactive rural estate Maintenance tasks ensuring that all tasks are completed according to a designated timescale.
To assist when required in the management of planned, preventative and reactive built estate Maintenance tasks ensuring that all tasks are completed according to a designated timescale.
To identify appropriate resources to carry out required tasks using in house maintenance teams and bought in service.
Ensure all works are compliant with statutory obligations. Manage contractors, identify best practice and promote continuous improvement including environmental best practice, identify opportunities for income generation and additional tasked works to reduce operating costs.
To liaise with all stakeholder to ensure effective maintenance delivery.
Planning and development of the additional works as required from the forward additional services plan and Forestry Harvesting & Marketing Initiative.
Participation in the planning team on call rota.The Ideal Candidate
Qualified in a rural or estate management or forestry discipline to level 4 or above / or considerable experience in previous relevant role.
Qualified to conduct basic tree inspections (desirable)
Have an understanding of statutory body requirements in relation to natural and historic environment.
A strong team player with a can do attitude.
Strong focus on Health & Safety with a minimum of IOSH managing safely.
Excellent contract management, deliver, supervision and inter-personal skills.
The ability to plan, analyse, innovate and deliver often against tight deadlines.
Extensive range of IT skills to support the efficient function of a moderns business.
