We are currently looking to give an opportunity for a person to join our team as a Quality Assurance Assistant, within our Technical Department.
Working within our Chocolate Factory (yes, you will get to taste the product!), you will have a keen eye for detail, enjoy problem solving, be proactive and able to think independently and enjoy working as part of a team.
The role is part of our Quality Assurance Team within the Technical Department. You will be based within our Laboratory and will learn all aspects of our Quality Assurance processes, being a key part of the team ensuring all the finished product made on site is within specification.
You will undertake routine sampling and testing of products using a variety of techniques and equipment and also be responsible for the intake of raw materials to site. This is an active role which will require you to be on the move for most of the working day therefore a basic level of fitness is required.
Hours of work will be 08:30 – 17:15 Monday – Thursday, 08:30-16:00 Friday. There will also be a requirement to work one Saturday morning a month as part of a rota with the rest of the team.
Job purpose
Executing all, the day-to-day activities of the Quality Assurance team based in the laboratory and in the factory to the requirements of the BSL Quality Management Systems Standards without compromising product, quality, safety or legality.
Upholding the principles of the BSL Management Commitment Statement.
You may be required to work in different areas of the laboratory and factory once initial training has been received.
Responsibilities include keeping the laboratory area clean, making sure that all machinery and equipment for use in the laboratory are in proper working order strictly following all the Health and Safety guidelines.
To be successful in the role, you should be able to work with constant speed and accuracy, whilst maintaining all the requirements of the Quality Management Systems standards without compromising product quality, safety or legality.
Duties and responsibilities
Whilst maintaining a safe and clean environment by complying with procedures, processes and regulations, the following forms part of the responsibilities of the role:
* Ensuring weighing machine equipment & metal detectors are monitored on a daily basis
* Ensuring the date codes and product labelling is correct (hourly monitoring)
* Ensuring Fondant syrups conform to the limits required (hourly monitoring)
* Ensuring the weight control of each batch is correct
* Ensuring that the product appearance and flavour conforms to the quality attribute sheet
* Collecting samples from raw materials vehicles (tankers & trailers) and packaging
* Printing the correct labels for each product making sure that it has all the required information, upon request
* Performing a range of tests on incoming raw materials and finished products
* Performing, preparing and participating on taste test panels for ingredients and finished products
* Conducting monthly stock checks (labels and ribbons for the Laboratory and Production)
* Creating sample batches for new recipes
* Effecting Allergen Swabs as required
* Printing Certificates
Qualifications and Competencies
* GCSCE or equivalent required (ideally including English, Math and Science but not essential)
* Ideal (but not essential) experience of working in a manufacturing environment
* Good attention to detail
* Able to work as part of a team
* Good written and oral communication
* Physical dexterity
Physical requirements
The role is physically demanding where you may be required to stand for periods of time, lift product on a regular basis and carry out repetitive tasks when required.
