Production Manager

We are looking for a experienced Production Manager to join a successful and busy Fresh Produce packhouse in Kent
Reporting to:- 1st Instance Operations Manager, Managing Director
Responsible For:- Production Shift Managers, Packaging Manager, Production Controllers, Line Leaders, Production Operatives, Barrow Operatives, Hygienist, Agency
Objective:-
To achieve and maintain quality, productive and cost-effective operation, by the optimization of all the labour resources and materials.
Promoting best practice, excellent standard ensuring compliance with the following company procedures – HACCP , Health and Safety , Quality standards, Company hygiene
Summary of Daily Duties:-
General:
Ensure Holiday and Sickness records are completed and advised to the wages department.
Carry out initial disciplinary measures through prior discussion with the operations and Personnel Manager.
Ensure that all Fire exits are clear, and that staff can make their escape at each end of production line.
Ensure that company 5s Kaizen methodologies are always adhered too
Produce a weekly production planner-update when necessary.
Ensure that actual v forecast analysis is monitored and driven
Proactively Liaise with Customer account desks to ensure pack ahead are allocated when necessary.
Ensure staff wear appropriate PPE.
Covering the Packhouse shifts when shift manager on Holiday or sick, operations manager to cover in emergency cases.
Ensuring the production shift managers
Following the company production planner
Managing head counts correctly and not being over crewed
Works order allocations are discussed and checked
Allocating staff ensuring production lines are balanced and cost effective
Ensuring the production area’s security is maintained during the shift
Auditing our production performance/standards and polies.
Good communication skills with stocks office, warehouse, and Trade partners.
Monitoring Clean as you go policy
Developing there team, highlighting candidates for internal promotions
Problems solving and contingency planning
Ensure by checking at random, that finished product is packed to standard with correct labels, including class 2 product
Check at random to ensure End Stock correctly labelled and returned to holding area or store
Ensuring production controllers
Encourage production controllers to be aware of dispatch times and to communicate at the earliest opportunity to management is falling behind.
Ensure production controllers are at random checking the scanning is operating correctly in and out of the Packhouse
Motivate production controllers to keep up a high production flow on their respective lines
Ensure that daily shift control records are completed to ensure all staff working on shift are accounted for.
Ensure that all allocated staff to each Production Line will ensure a high momentum of production and cost effectiveness.
Ensure that the HACCP/Hygiene check list is completed.
Ensure that dispatch times are met by monitoring Production progress against orders and dispatch times.
Ensure that all works orders are completed correctly with good accurate recording of staff, bill of materials and product.
Checking all completed works order are reconciling correctly
Line leaders
Ensure that Line Leaders in training are mentored to achieve accuracy on Works Orders.
Ensure that Line Leaders thoroughly clean down Organic lines and complete cleaning record.
Check Works Orders at random to ensure that Line Leaders are balancing figures correctly and sign to show check.
Ensure that Line Leaders comply with the end of late shift cleaning procedures.
Encourage Line Leaders to motivate their packers to produce a consistent work rate.
Using performance trackers to monitor productivity
Ensure that Line Leaders have organized a timely control of stock from Tunnel/store to production line.
Barrow Operatives
Ensure that Barrow Operatives remove Pallet and Packing debris pallets, cardboard, waste bins) on each visit to the Production area.
Ensure that Barrow Operatives carry out their duties in a Safe manner especially within the Production area where space can sometimes be restricted and have a considerable volume of Personnel.
Ensure Barrow operatives sign off PPE equipment daily
Hygienist
Ensure that weekly hygiene walk is actioned and issued to the relevant staff to complete
Ensure daily hygiene schedules are followed and completed
Ensure only company issued cleaning equipment and cleaning fluids are used.
Staff Training & Development
Establish goals and objectives for the production team and implement accordingly, to help support / improve job performance (experience, ability, competence)
Be aware of and promote manufacturing best practice and Performance standards
Develop and monitor performance standards
Identify individual training needs
Implement, monitor and review training and development plans
Oversee and organize the training of Line Leaders, Packers and Barrow Operatives, hygienist
Performance Management & Annual Appraisals
Monitor, review and address personnel under performance, Maintaining appropriate records in accordance with company procedures
Conduct and record annual performance appraisals
Ensuring that the appropriate systems and processes are in place to measure and manage staff performance and to coach and develop a high performance workforce
Health & Safety
Promote & maintain awareness and compliance of Health &Safety in accordance with best practice and legal requirement by law
KPI’s (Work Performance):-
* Monitor and manage production KPI’s;
* Time & Absence Management of your team
* Departmental Performance:
* Barrow Operative pallets per minute
* Production productivity (%)
* Labour recovery
* Quality Service Levels (QSL %)
* Company stock loses (or loses through poor performance)
* Budget adherence (staff)
* Achieve the company’s on time delivery and in full – OTIF, target of 99%>
* Control all associated production costs according to the annual budget forecast
