Our client, a highly reputable farm located in Aberdeenshire, has informed us of an opening at their site – a Growing Manager. Typical responsibilities will entail crop husbandry, following KPI targets, controlling and supervising the cycle from delivery to harvest.
This is an excellent opportunity for those who wish to undertake a role of growing high yield crops for retailers, with the excellent on-site accommodation provided. There also remains the option for future progression which is highly enthused by the client.
What the job offers
• Salary – £35,000 – £40,000.
• Bonus for KPI’s delivered – £4000

• Hours – in season, varied to business needs – Mon – Fri 40 hours per week

Job Role
• Crop Maintenance & Husbandry – Organise and execute the annual care for the crops and the labour needs. Utilise the irrigation, fertigation and plant protection as needed throughout the season and maintain records to provide future analysis and improvements. Adhere legislation and guidelines alongside with spraying.
• Crop protection Management – Take charge of a team of operators work plans and spraying schedules. Liaise with labour manager and training manager for labour needs and ensure that the staff can perform the work.
• Pre-Planting & Planting – Ensure that the operational procedure is followed in accordance with the Managing directors’ orders – Stock control, overseeing planting operations and quality assurance.
• Quality of Plants – Control the on-site propagation unit. Ensure that the purchased plants meet the quality specification, liaise, and build tactical relations with propagators. If there’s any issues report to the managing director.
• Yield Information & Crop Calendar – Supply accurate yield data and develop a yearly crop calendar & husbandry labour plan; Carry out stock management of the chemicals and fertilisers and give the Managing Director the updates; Maintain the field maps to ensure they’re up to date.
• Crop Monitoring – Ensure that crop and environmental systems are accurately managed and always monitored. Plan leaf, soil, and water analysis alongside the matrix plan. Pests and diseases should all be monitored, and action taken wherever required. Crop prediction reports must be done fortnightly. Auditing Bodies must be strictly adhered with the protocols at this site.
• Quality Assurance & Communication – Working alongside the technical department – with any potential issue being brought up to the managing director.
Key Performance Indicators
1. Crop quality & Class 1 Yield – percentage of first-class product relative to the predicted total harvestable crop volume
2. Planting aims are delivered – All relevant standards are adhered to strictly alongside the techniques and procedures as ordered by the Managing Director
3. Maintaining a pest and disease-free farm, with all budgets and yields delivered within target.
4. All records are in date – traceability of plants and operations is met
5. Persistent updates on all accounts of crop progression with problems liaised with the Managing Director.
