A Senior Fibre Optic Engineer opening with a global engineering company this division specialise as a manufacturing company who design and produce equipment including electrical penetrators and connectors used within the global oil industry.
Location: Near York and work remotely / Hybrid (flexible, normally 3 days a week in office)

ROLE
We are looking for a Senior Fibre Optic Engineer to lead/support with all aspects of design engineering in Fibre Optic connectors. You will be fully involved in new product development, associated draughting, along with any necessary prototype building and testing. In addition, there will be a mix of customer or project system design work to support the day-to-day operations of the engineering department.
You will be expected to plan, schedule and coordinate engineering work – monitoring work in progress to ensure compliance to industry and company standards and facilitate effective communication and coordination between all departments undertaking project work.
Your technical knowledge will enable you to have sufficient awareness of details to recognise when technical problems are becoming apparent and be able to initiate corrective actions.
You will report directly to the Engineering Manager and assist with certain project management tasks on larger projects, including client interaction and coordination of internal activities performed by staff.
The role will be based in Malton, North Yorkshire with some occasional requirement to visit client’s offices or other premises, either in the UK or worldwide. We offer hybrid model of working as well. We are looking for previous experience in Fibre Optics – both design and practical knowledge.
Key Responsibilities of Fibre Optic Design Engineer:
• Undertake all aspects of product design and development. – Design Layouts/Concepts – Design Review – Design Calculations – Detail Drawings – Checking work – BOM’s and Assembly Drawings – Assembly and Test Procedures – Product Testing and Qualification
• Preparation of project engineering schedules and forecasts.
• Coordination and checking of engineering deliverables.
• Regular project status reports and change orders.
• Regular contact with project clients.
• Budget monitoring.
• Contributing to the development of the company's brand.
• Provide support to other departments as and when required.
• Adhere to ISO 9001 drawing office practises.
• Participation in the preparation of project quotations and technical proposals.
Skills & Experience required:
• Engineering experience in an Oil and Gas Design environment (Desirable).
• 3D CAD Modelling using Autodesk Inventor experience or similar software (Essential).
• Mechanical Engineering degree and/ or HND/HNC with experience (Essential).
• Experience in using the MS Programs (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
• Fibre Optics knowledge of theoretical fundamentals and practical experience of operation and measurement (Essential).
• Ability to communicate effectively at all levels (Essential).
• Self-motivated and proactive attitude, willing to learn and excel skills
