We have an exciting opportunity available for a Digital Content Officer to join our team. You will join us on full time, permanent basis, and in return, you will receive a competitive salary Circa £33,500 per annum plus benefits.

The Francis Crick Institute is a biomedical discovery institute dedicated to understanding the fundamental biology underlying health and disease. Its work is helping to understand why disease develops and to translate discoveries into new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, stroke, infections, and neurodegenerative diseases.

An independent organisation, its founding partners are the Medical Research Council (MRC), Cancer Research UK, Wellcome, UCL (University College London), Imperial College London and King’s College London.

The Crick was formed in 2015, and in 2016 it moved into a new state-of-the-art building in central London which brings together 1500 scientists and support staff working collaboratively across disciplines, making it the biggest biomedical research facility under a single roof in Europe.

The Digital Content Officer will work across all digital channels and be responsible for producing a regular flow of high-quality and compelling digital content, including website content, social media posts, graphics and videos.

You will take pride in ensuring that our external website up to date and populated with content that meets our audiences’ needs. You will be able to proactively expand the reach and impact of our social media presence by developing strategies in response to evaluation.

Responsibilities of our Digital Content Officer:

Proactively ensure that content on the Crick’s external website is up to date, of the highest editorial standards and embodies the Crick’s brand.

Produce clear and compelling content for all our digital channels as required, from web pages to news articles, photos to multimedia pieces.

Manage the day-to-day running of our social media channels, including content creation, community monitoring and engaging with audiences, to build our social media presence and engage more people in the work of the Crick.

Plan, implement and evaluate digital content and social media campaigns.

Contribute to evolving digital content strategies.

Analyse and interpret evaluation data, and use it to improve content creation and sharing.

Support the Digital Communications and Content Manager with content planning and scheduling.

Support colleagues by updating content on the Crick’s Intranet.

Carry out training for colleagues on content management systems and other digital tools.

Contribute to horizon scanning and user research activities to ensure that the Crick keeps up with digital developments and continues to produce content that meets the needs of our audiences.

Take responsibility for our digital asset management system and email marketing system, training new users where needed.

Maintain and update the Crick’s style guide.

Skills and experience we are looking for in our Digital Content Officer:

A science-related undergraduate degree or equivalent, or experience of working in a scientific organisation.

Excellent web content design, copywriting and editing skills, with good attention to detail.

Good knowledge of website content management systems, social media platforms, and analysis tools.

Experience of day-to-day running of social media accounts on behalf of an organisation or group.

Good design skills and the ability to produce graphics for social media.

Experience of writing articles or briefings on complex subjects, with the ability to translate complex information for a general audience.

Experience of using evaluation tools to report on and improve digital communications activities.

Ability to identify and employ new digital tools to improve digital communications.

Experience of planning and implementing digital content and social media campaigns.

Experience working with and advising content owners and stakeholders to ensure that content meets user needs.

Demonstrable knowledge of, and interest in, science communication.

Knowledge of brand management.

Excellent IT skills.
