Our client is at a pivotal stage in their business, as they recruit a *** Furniture Designer *** to bring their design office in-house to the Banbury area.
The role will be to work in collaboration with the Furniture Manager, to bring new products to life and enhance existing ones. The role will be operational in the aspects, starting from the ground up, whilst pulling in on your design and manufacturing experience.
This newly created role will ultimately be to study, research, and design various styles of furniture to suit our clients’ target market, and to find ways to improve furniture items in their current portfolio.
Responsibilities for the Furniture Designer:
* Study, research and plan various styles of furniture design.
* Find ways to improve furniture items already manufactured.
* Stay informed about design trends and developments.
* Select suitable materials, which might include wood, metal, plastic and textiles.
* Study, research sustainable options for manufacturing new furniture designs.
* Discuss designs with clients for custom ordering or with manufacturers
* Generate sample designs using computer-aided design (CAD), cad models, sketches, or hard prototypes.
* Use software packages such as AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks and Photoshop.
* Prepare detailed final designs.
* Liaise with craftsmen or production department staff (such as production managers, marketing staff and design engineers) about the process of construction or manufacture.
* Evaluate issues such as pricing and fixing costs, fashion, purchasing, safety, materials and manufacturing methods and techniques.
* Organise plans and schedules with respect to the availability of resources.
* Attend workshops, seminars and training on various types of manufacturing and furniture design.
Specific Skills and Experience for the Furniture Designer
Essential:
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – both written and verbal.
* Resilient and proven ability to work under pressure.
* The ability to build effective and beneficial relationships with internal and external parties.
* Excellent problem-solving ability – prepared to ‘think outside of the box’ to find solutions to satisfy both the customer and the business.
* Ability to work independently and with other members of the team.
* To work within set targets and tight deadlines.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office, customer service software and Furniture design Software.
* Creative and practical ability
* Good drawing skills and design awareness
* Knowledge of industrial processes and techniques, safety issues and specialist fields or materials
Qualifications in:
Furniture design
Furniture design and making
Product and furniture design.
Desirable:
Our client is an international organisation, additional language skills would be beneficial.
Experience of working within a similar industry sector.
Generic Qualities:
To support and promote the values and objectives of the company.
To act as an ambassador for the company in all dealings with external bodies.
Hours of Work:
Normal hours of work are 08:00 – 17:00 with a break of 30 minutes. Reasonable time off in lieu will be given to compensate out of hours work and some flexibility on working hours / working from home may be offered once established
