Salary: £35K + (Negotiable Depending on Experience)

Monday to Friday 08:00 – 17:00 with a 1-hour unpaid break, totalling 40 hours per week.

Our client is a plastic manufacturing company who specialise in tooling, precision plastic injection moulding and product development engineering. They are currently looking for a Design Engineer to join their expanding team.

Reporting to the Design Manager, you will be a key member of the Design Department and your job function is to identify complex design problems, conduct root-cause failure analyses, and anticipate production issues. Then to develop innovative design solutions, evaluate options, conduct tests, and implement solutions to meet timing, product cost and reliability targets. You will also provide CAD support to the Toolroom.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Competence with 3D CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
Ability to design complex components and create assemblies.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Impeccable attention to detail.
In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, in particular injection moulding.
Good at interpreting a design brief.
Ability to work with an internal team, suppliers, and clients.
Ability to communicate ideas with Engineers and Non-Engineers, both verbally and with marked up sketches, drawings, photographs.
On a day-to-day basis you will be involved in new projects and making improvements to existing designs.
Manage prototypes and build samples for testing and evaluation. Often these will be for customers, or, for internal Sales and Marketing departments.
Provide sales and marketing with information, specifications, descriptions, drawings, and images.
Travel at short notice to the companys manufacturing site, also, to customers, sometimes solo, sometimes with the sales department. On rare occasions travel to overseas factory or European customers.
In addition to being a staff member of the Design Department, occasionally the Technical Director will need a Design Engineer to support the Tooling Department in the form of creating or modifying 2D and 3D CAD files. These will be for tool modifications, jigs, and fixtures.
You may be required to undertake additional / alternative duties within the scope of this job description and where your skills and / or experience allow.
