Midweight Graphic Designer

Job Type : Permanent, Full Time

Salary : £35000 – £45000/annum

Midweight Graphic Designer with strong UX/UI skills

We need an exceptional, relentlessly creative and design obsessed midweight graphic designer with strong UX/UI skills to join our team and have the confidence to exert their influence on our studio and creative output from the get go. You will be expected to work from our East London studio 3 days per week with the rest of the creative team, and will be able to work from home 2 days per week.

Skills, experience and qualifications required

You must have at least 3 years’ professional experience, predominantly in an agency environment, and be proficient across the Adobe Creative Cloud, and also, really importantly, be extremely proficient working in Figma. Good competency in and a passion for digital UI design is essential.

We’re looking for our new recruit to have ambition, be as passionate about our company as we are and to grow as we grow, both professionally and personally. We also need the right candidate to have the desire to develop quickly into a more senior creative leadership role, keen to guide, motivate, advise and inspire their colleagues across all levels of the business.

Conceptually literate as well as design focussed, you’ll possess great attention to detail, be a good communicator and able to work quickly and to a high standard within a fast paced creative environment. We want someone who is inquisitive, informed, and really interested in life, in culture, in music and who ideally (although this wouldn’t be a dealbreaker)knows a thing or two about sports and the culture that surrounds it, as well as for-good activities.

You must be a confident presenter, with natural people skills. The ability to spot growth opportunities with existing clients, as well as new business opportunities from outside our existing client roster, would be a big bonus.

Any knowledge and skills in the following are desirable although not essential: After Effects, Cinema 4D/Blender, HTML, CSS and JS and Glyphs. We also welcome any keen photographers or wordsmiths! We need someone who is primarily a great designer, but any other skill sets and passions you can bring to the party will be warmly welcomed.

Duties and responsibilities

Using industry software such as Figma, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator to create visual designs.

Understanding and interpreting client briefs.

Attending client meetings where required to discuss expectations and desired outcomes of design.

Presenting draft designs to clients for feedback. Supporting clients and/or the business to understand the impact of graphic design.

Working with creative colleagues such as strategists, copywriters and social media experts.

Conceptualise and create visual assets for HeyBigMan!’s PR and marketing platforms (website, social media channels, newsletters, networking events etc.)

Working on a range of design pieces, from social media posts to packaging design and full-scale branding projects.

Solving problems for clients such as helping them to communicate with their customers more efficiently.

Understand the commercial value of graphic design.

Spot opportunities for upselling and drive new business to HeyBigMan!

Mentorship of junior designers.
About us

HeyBigMan! is a multidisciplinary creative agency with a weighting towards strategy-based brand design, so experience in visual identity creation, coupled with a love of branding is a must. We have a varied, cross-sector mix of clients (although we have lots of sports related work in the pipeline), and you’ll also be contributing creatively to our own self-generated initiatives within the HBM! ecosystem. No two days are ever the same and designers love working with us as we produce such an eclectic mix of work. You’ll almost certainly be doing things you’ve never done before and so your learning curve will be steep!

Our studio is in vibrant Hackney Wick, London, a lovely place to work but that’s alive with creative energy. But in our post pandemic world of work, you won’t be expected to be studio based every day.

Salary: £35,000 – £45,000 per annum

Please apply with your CV, portfolio and cover letter ASAP.

We tend to receive a lot of applications, so whilst we’ll review in detail every portfolio we receive, we will only be able to respond to shortlisted candidates
