Our client is an established apparel business with retail and corporatewear divisions recruiting for a new position of Compliance & Sustainability Manager.

Business growth has been significant in recent years’ and this role will be vital to their continued success. Based from Head Office, and reporting to the Operations Director the successful candidate will be solution-focused and passionate about sustainability, environmental performance, compliance and best practice. This Management role will be both challenging and rewarding with exposure to a fast-paced, vibrant working environment, and the opportunity to develop and drive the sustainability strategy for the company and wider group.

It is essential that you have experience working in accessories or apparel, with a background in sustainability, and a good knowledge of supply chains, products and raw materials. You should also have a good awareness of industry initiatives and an ability to manage business-wide data to deliver strategic reporting.

Compliance and Sustainability Manager – The Person Spec

* Support the Board of Directors with devising the annual sustainability business plan and ensuring that costs remain within the sustainability budget

* Collate and review for the business all social, ethical, technical and environmental compliance requirements and related process, write up procedures where needed

* Work with In-country Compliance teams and Factories/Mills to implement requirements

* Closely follow up Factories accreditation process, review reports/certificates, non-compliances, corrective actions, expiry dates, etc

* Knowledgeable on Sourcing country laws, regulations – or research/study as needed

* Working with the company’s supply chain, checking traceability and validation of all paperwork

* Monitor the supply base through pro-active management of audit programmes in the mills and factories, drive improvement through ongoing work with suppliers and with the support of the In-country teams

* Implement an ethical compliance programme, undertaking investigations into potential ethical compliance issues

* Ongoing research, study, and training on latest compliance requirements

* Develop and promote environmental awareness including waste management initiatives and CO2 reduction plans across all teams to optimise best practice across the business.

* Coach employees in best practise and in the implementation of site waste management plans across the business.

* Assist in the collation, analysis, and reporting of data to enable the assessment of performance against sustainability targets

* Undertake environmental auditing of sites to ensure compliance and maximise best practise.

* Implement best practice and stay up-to-date with current trends in the sector as well as current and upcoming legislation and compliance.

* Define, and where possible, exceed customer expectations on sustainability delivery across the business.

Compliance and Sustainability Manager – The Person Spec

* A minimum of 5 years’ experience in compliance field (factory auditing experience would be a great advantage) within the apparel sector

* Commercially aware

* Strong understanding of ethical audit programs such as SMETA, BSCI etc.

* Understanding and ability to research sustainability programs/new initiatives (GOTS, BCI, Higg Index, etc).

* Highly organised with the proven ability to work under pressure and cope with tight deadlines.

* Attention to detail.

* Proactive approach.

* Enthusiastic, organised and be able to work at a fast pace.

* Must be able to work well in a team but also have good initiative to work alone.

* Familiar with Microsoft Office packages and Outlook.

* Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

* Overseas travel is essential to the role.
