Job Summary: 

The Transport Manager is responsible for providing the transport operations, within the Gate Gourmet Manchester operations with leadership and strategic direction. This includes the planning and coordination of catering schedule transport operations, including routes and schedules, so that catering uplifts and associated products reach their destinations safely, on time and in the most cost-effective way.

Main Duties & Responsibilities: 

Working with customer schedules, planning routes and scheduling delivery times for the transport operations
Managing a team of Team Leaders, drivers, Loaders
Making sure the operation meets its targets
Liaise with the General Manager and create Staff rosters, manage work hours, ensure effective holiday planning and manpower planning 
Coordinating staff training and development
Lead the management of staff performance while working collaboratively with the Fleet Manager 
Liaising with airport authorities on operations and requirements
Supporting any regional business activity as required
To ensure all new starters receive a thorough induction and are given all the initial help they need to achieve the required standards in their new job
Actively recognize good performance in the team and promote the company reward and recognition scheme
Putting together performance reports for the business and customers
Managing contracts and developing new business
Ensure the transport teams are aware of their responsibilities related to food safety, health and safety and security in the workplace and have the minimum qualifications and training to work in their respective roles
Enforcement of the GG Food Safety Standard as required
Participation in customer and authority audits
Undertake regular audits of all areas within the transport and airside areas to ensure complete adherence to agreed policies
Ensure cleaning rosters are operational throughout the fleet and airside areas
Ensure that all equipment is working safely and compliant with manufacturers guidelines for operation reporting any failures.
To ensure effective channels of communication at all levels so every member of the team is aware of the customer requirements and objectives and the part they play in the successful delivery of these requirements.
Investigate and respond as required to customer complaints
To be an active member of the management team and support colleagues in the achievement of their KPI’s
To attend team meetings as required and contribute to the development and growth of the business through the sharing of good practice and your own experiences.
To attend all necessary training programmes to develop your own potential and enable your progress in the company
To support the Regional Fleet Manager in terms of regulations, working time directive, training, vehicle management and compliance 

Qualifications and Experience: 

Education:

A foundation degree, HND or degree in a relevant subject, Logistics, supply chain management, transport management, business management.
Holds a Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC). 
Holder of an O license preferable  

Work Experience: 

At least 3 years’ experience at a supervisory grade working within the transport or logistics industry.
Experience of managing and leading mid-sized teams (at least 20 people) 

Technical Skills: (Certification, Licenses and Registration)  

Strong analytical skills with ability to analyse data and numbers to provide clarity and influence decisions. 
Intermediate level of competency in Office 365 and particularly Excel skills to be able to work with data comparison. 
Ability to demonstrate proficiency with numbers and financial calculations. 
Clear understanding of the responsibility of managing sensitive and confidential data. 
Customer focused. 
Hands-on and proactive approach with a positive “can do” attitude and team player.
Preferably a member of The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport 

Language / Communication Skills:

Ability to flex communication style and approach to engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation 
Ability to explain complex data sets effectively to internal stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
Ability to use data to support reasoning 
Ability to negotiate achievable deliverables with stakeholders
