The Role/Position Overview
Real estate is going through a huge transformation in the way that it operates, the people it employs and the buildings it develops.

If you’re the right candidate for this role, you’ll have a passion for finding and telling stories about that transformation before anyone else. You’ll have a hunger for breaking news, digging deep into the details and delivering agenda-setting content to an expert audience with originality and accuracy. You’ll be motivated, driven by the chase, competitive and eager to carve a reputation as the go-to for breaking news and analysis.

You’ll be equally comfortable analysing the balance sheets of the biggest listed landlords on the stock exchange, hitting the phones and pounding pavements to discover new stories and fresh angles, as you are sitting down to interview FTSE 100 chief executives, billionaire developers and senior government ministers.

While the role is focused on news first and foremost, you’ll also be working on more in-depth analysis, profile interviews and investigations.

Responsibilities

* Writing and breaking exclusive, contacts-driven news stories

* Providing in-depth news analysis, delivering deeper and actionable insight on significant sector trends for EG users

* Pitching, conducting and writing profile interviews with the biggest names in real estate

* Contribute a wide range of articles on a daily, weekly and longer-term basis, including features and investigations

* Building, maintaining and growing contact base in line with assigned reporting patch

* Attending, and networking at, a range of UK and international industry events

* Writing fast, concise and accurate copy according to EG’s house style and to strict deadlines

* Using social media to engage with readers and live-tweet important industry events

* Working closely with the wider content and EG data team to produce best-in-class insight into market trends for our users

* Using EG’s analytics and data products to enhance copy

* Contribute to EG’s growing portfolio of podcast and video output, with the opportunity to expand this into your own series.

Experience/Qualifications/ Required Skills

* 1-2 years’/Prior experience of news writing for either a daily newspaper or online offering

* An interest in business journalism and the role of real estate in the economy, politics and wider environment

* Recognised journalism qualification, not necessarily to degree level, such as NTJC or on-the-job qualifications.

* An interest in creating multimedia content, particularly podcasting, is an advantage

* Ability to create and nurture relationships with industry contacts

* A strong track record.
