The Company: Fantastic family-owned farming business, highly regarded for growing and packing the highest quality speciality vegetables which are supplied to UK's leading supermarkets and wholesale.

The Purpose of the Job:
Responsible for a team of Production Line Leaders ensuring that all operational activities are completed accurately, concisely and to the required standards of quality, legality and safety. A key part of the role is to coordinate the activities of the packhouse, maximizing efficiency and ensuring continuity of supply and timely order output. The role requires the effective management of staff, including the organisation of people, allocation of correct raw materials, packaging (film, labels, boxes) and maintenance of production equipment. Work with Management, Line Leaders, QC's and other team members to develop a team ethos and to deliver the aims of the business.

Key Responsibilities:
* Day to day operational responsibility for the packhouse and its performance, managing a team of Line Leaders and multiskilled team of Operatives.
* Exceptional understanding of quality control and relevant industry standards to meet customers specifications and requirements.
* Coach and develop members of the team and promote a continuous improvement culture to increase performance and drive down costs.
* Set production targets and goals.
* Ensure all staff in the packhouse comply with the company's health and safety and quality policies and procedures.
* To manage and evaluate machine resources to ensure productivity and minimal downtime.
* To monitor the performance of equipment ensuring that any malfunction or breakdown is reported and remedied.
* To oversee a robust plan for the repair and routine maintenance of production equipment is
implemented.
* Ensure schedules for production staff meet optimum staffing levels to meet customer orders.
* To ensure the company values are embedded and practiced across your responsibility areas.
* Ensure the ongoing accuracy and effectiveness of all paperwork and traceability systems.
* To ensure the ongoing accuracy of all customer specific data including label management and product identification and traceability.
* To implement and maintain best practice housekeeping and site hygiene, ensuring health and safety and food safety standards are maintained.
* Cross train and develop staff, provide support and ensure that team members are instructed and
supervised effectively.
* Management of packhouse staff to include time and attendance, staff registers, holiday, discipline and return to work interviews.
* Liaise with relevant parties to ensure that stock is maintained at the correct levels, is available and used in the correct rotation.
* Understand factors affecting crop and growing conditions and resulting impact on raw material stock.
* Ensure effective communication up and down the chain i.e. field to packhouse to senior management to stock quality and availability.
* Responsible for the out load to all of our customers.
* Ensure that total stock and product traceability is maintained throughout, from intake through to dispatch.
* Ensuring load plans, temperature checks, and maximum pallet utilisation is undertaken, and paperwork is filed and passed onto the relevant departments in a timely manner.
* Responsible for providing detailed reports highlighting all activity undertaken, line performance, costings and labour.
* Identify any areas to improve production, product or quality performance.
* Provide support and run packhouse trials or projects to aid production or new product development.
* To provide staff training and development.
* Responsible for setting and reviewing budgets for production.
* To help and provide support during site audits and to ensure the packhouse is always 'audit ready'.

Essential Criteria:

Computer literate and competent user of Microsoft Office.

Qualifications:
Educated to BSc (Hons) in a Food Science, Horticulture or Agricultural based discipline.
Food Safety in Manufacturing Level 3.
HACCP Level 2.
Good working knowledge of BRC.
IOSH or good knowledge of Health and Safety.
First Aid.
Forklift License.

Work Experience:
At least two years previous experience supervising or managing staff within a food production
environment.

Languages:
Fluent English – both written and verbal
Other languages such as Romanian, Bulgarian, Lithuanian and Russian would be beneficial.

Working Hours:
Summer – May to October – Minimum of 5 days a week, including weekends, 7:30am to 5:30pm.
Winter – November to April – Minimum of 5 days a week, including weekends, 8:00am to 4:00pm.
The employee must be able to commit to this and understand that at times working hours may be dictated by the needs of the business.

The Package:
£30K – £40K
