NHS Kitchen Assistant
We are looking for Kitchen Staff to join our patient dining team who are passionate about customer service and want to make a difference. Some of the qualities we look for that are key to this role include a calm and friendly manner with good communication skills for interacting with patients.
As Kitchen staff within our catering department, you will be responsible for assisting with smooth production, presentation and service of food as directed by the Head Chef while maximising customers and patients appeal and exceeding the Trusts, patients and customers expectations in the restaurant and food outlets at the NHS Trust.
Main Resposibilities and Duties:
* To support meal planning and menu writing, theme days, special offers to provide adequate information to all customers and patients. To help prepare nutritious and appetising food and drinks where the food must meet patients` clinical and cultural needs for example gluten free, low salt, soft food, halala or vegetarian; must understand texture modified food requirements.
* To ensure food is correctly and safely prepared and stored, at the correct legal temperatures, in line with the HACCP regulations and to ensure compliance with all Food safety requirements. Prepare and store food correctly to minimise waste. To understand and adhere to proper food handling, safety and sanitation standards during food preparation, service and clean up.
* To ensure all COSHH, HACC and QHSE regulations are adhered to. To ensure adequate information is on display with reference to Health & Safety and Food Safety.
* To maintain safe and health work environment by following organisation standards and sanitation regulations.
* To complete promptly and accurately due diligence sheets and other food safety documentation.
* To work closely and communicate effectively with all teams to provide an efficient and seamless service. To communicate in an engaging way, ensuring inspiring and motivating messages are conveyed across all colleagues.
* Hygiene is a priority – to ensure all work surfaces are clear and clean.
* To provide a great level of customer service to all patients, staff and various stakeholders.
Health & Safety Responsibilities:
* To report any safety deficiencies in systems of work or equipment provided that may result in failure of service delivery or risk to health & safety or the environment, incidents, near misses, ill health and environmental incidents to their manager and to take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and others.
* To use all work equipment and personal PPE properly and in accordance with training received.
* Report any issues or training needs to your line manager and/or via your divisional incident reporting system.
Requirements:

Enhanced DBS Police check.
*
Strong working knowledge of Food Safety (preferably certified), including full understanding of HACCP
* Awareness of food & hygiene within a catering environment, a Level 2 Food Safety would be desirable but not essential. Must be available to undertake mandatory training at short notice to comply with Food Safety.
* Passionate about patient care, with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors and healthcare staff.
* Able to work under pressure, individually and as part of a team with a flexible approach some rooms may be chilled and there may be manual handling as part of the role.
* Confident working in a hospital environment and aware at times you will come in contact with patients that are particularly unwell.
