Genomics England partners with the NHS to provide whole genome sequencing diagnostics. We also equip researchers to find the causes of disease and develop new treatments – with patients and participants at the heart of it all.

As Head of Digital Communications and Content, you will lead the delivery of digital communications and content to support the positioning of Genomics England as a leader in genomic medicine and grow the presence of Genomics England’s digital channels. They will be responsible for gathering insights and measuring engagement across our digital channels e.g. social media, website and email marketing, ensuring our brand, messaging and content reaches our wide audience including participants and patients, clinicians, researchers and industry, and are accessible and engaging.

Job Description

* Working with the Communications Director, develop a multi-channel content strategy and drive the delivery of a regular drumbeat of engaging digital communications and content from across the various exciting areas of our organisation, ensuring consistency across all channels

* Provide input into the wider Communications & Engagement grid, ensuring timelines for content and digital communications are regularly updated, and work with others across the directorate to support the planning and implementation of specific, timely communications across our digital channels

* Develop and implement an evaluation model to measure engagement with our content across digital channels and show value of activity for wider organisational objectives

* Build, manage and continually review Genomics England’s brand and develop the organisation's tone of voice and messaging working closely with the Communications Director and Head of External Communications, ensuring staff across the organisation have up-to-date guidelines and templates

* Manage the development, continual improvement and evolution of the Genomics England website and social media channels, ensuring that brand integrity is maintained across all platforms and Genomics England's digital communications and content aligns with best practice and accessibility guidelines

* Lead the delivery of email marketing campaigns and ensure communications are compliant with relevant regulations e.g. GDPR and PECR

* Manage design and video resource and support to ensure access and availability for staff across the organisation in support of wider organisational strategic projects and deliverables

* Manage external agencies as required, ensuring clear deliverables are communicated and tracked and that best value is delivered

* Manage and lead an inclusive, high performing team, ensuring we have the right skills in place to deliver our mission and matrix manage others across wider directorate allocating appropriate talent and resources in all communications initiatives, defining priorities and coordinating cross-functional initiatives

* Manage and ensure good governance and compliance with all relevant requirements including budgets, workforce plan, and all data and IT requirements.

Qualifications

None specific, we are interested in your experience. We are looking for the following experience of:

* Exceptional and proven experience of managing a Digital Communications and Content team, supporting growth and motivating and engaging the team in an inclusive manner whilst communicating a clear vision and roadmap

* Implementing digital communications and content strategies and driving strategies and plans to support wider organisational aims

* Confidently operating in a complex, politically-nuanced organisation and manages multiple stakeholder relationships

* Understanding of how evaluation metrics can be developed to track engagement and effectiveness of communications

* Delivering on teams and own commitments.

Genomics England operates a blended working model as we know our people appreciate the flexibility. We expect most people to come into the office 2 times each month as a minimum. However, this will vary according to role and will be agreed with your team leader. For some people this is 1 day a quarter, for others it is several days a week. There is no expectation that staff will return to the office full time unless they want to. The exception would be some of our roles that would require you to be on site full time e.g., lab teams, reception team.

Our teams and squads have, and will continue to, reflect on what works best for them to work together successfully and have the freedom to design working patterns to suit, beyond the minimum. Our office locations are Canary Wharf, Cambridge and Leeds.
