Do you have Grounds Maintenance experience? Are you looking for a position which also supplies accommodation?
Garrowby Estate is a traditional agricultural estate extending to 13,250 acres, located 13 miles east of York.
We require a cheerful, motivated, and experienced person to supervise and work with our two assistant groundskeepers to look after the hall, garden and grounds with the support of our Estate teams.
The role is varied and involves grounds maintenance (including some parkland and ponds), gardening, property/vehicle maintenance, driving, and out-of-hours duties (1 in 3 rota).
Out-of-hours duties include fire laying, bins removal, ad hoc driving, premises security and being on call to respond to burglar alarms, fire alarms or other emergencies (e.g. plumbing leaks).
In addition to managing two full-time staff, during a day’s work you may need to fix a dripping tap, mow the lawn, clean the swimming pool, change the air filter on a motorcycle, move furniture, collect guests from the station and check on plants in the greenhouse…
You must be able to plan, prioritise and carry out works with minimal input from your line manager.
Skills required:
• At least 3 years’ experience in grounds maintenance
• Basic DIY (e.g. joinery and plumbing repairs)
• Basic vehicle/machinery maintenance
• Gardening and outdoor tidying skills
You should be experienced in the use of pesticides, chainsaws, ride-on mowers and hedge-trimmers. Relevant certificates/qualifications are advantageous but not essential. A full UK Driving Licence is required, and you must be competent pulling a trailer.
