Seven Resourcing is working with Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council to help recruit a Forestry Officer for their Environmental Services Department.

Rates are between £16.25 – £19.14 per hour.

Job Purpose:

To be responsible for the day to day monitoring of all Forestry works undertaken through the Forestry Services Contract and other sections as required within Environmental Services, delivering an efficient and effective service to support the Environmental Services Division by developing, implementing and monitoring work programmes to support the maintenance and development of the Boroughs tree stock and identifying any areas for future service improvements.

To be responsible for all customer enquiries, complaints and compliments relating to Forestry operations ensuring they are responded to in accordance with relevant council policy and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

To survey identify and examine trees to diagnose injury, disease, decay or other physiological disorders and identify remedial actions necessary to preserve the Boroughs tree heritage.

To monitor operational contract performance against targets related to service quality and timely delivery of service and where appropriate develop action plans and strategies to ensure the attainment of these objectives.

To be responsible for customer enquiries, complaints and compliments relating to works undertaken through the Forestry Services Contract ensuring they are responded to in accordance with council policy and procedures.

To undertake face to face meetings with SMBC staff, Contractors representatives and other external partners associated with the Forestry Services Contract, and other services/partners associated with the Environmental Services Division.

To be responsible for all appropriate documentation both manual and computerised ensuring all Legislative and Corporate guidelines are complied with.

Assist in the preparation of technical reports on Forestry issues and attend meetings as required.

To contribute to the delivery of projects required to develop key elements of the service.

To manage all devolved budgets within the Councils Financial Regulations

To provide, analyse and present relevant data to a variety of audiences as required.

Provide technical advice on Forestry issues to other Departments within the Authority as requested.

To promote and develop continuous improvement of an efficient, high quality, responsive service based upon established lean processes.

Any other appropriate duties as and when required.

Applicant Requirements:

Qualifications: National Diploma in Arboriculture or equivalent qualification
Experience: Significant experience of working in a similar role. Experience working in similar arboriculture officer role. Experience of working with a variety of stakeholders. Experience of planning and delivering forestry projects and programmes. Knowledge of relevant planning law e.g. Tree Preservation Orders (TPO). Technical specialist knowledge of Arboriculture techniques and practices. Understanding of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and database systems. Knowledge of relevant Health and Safety law in relation to tree stock management.
Compliance: Up to date Passport
Travel: Clean UK driving license with the ability to commute to and from work independently.
Hours: 37 hours p/w.
