ERP and SQL Server Support / DBA

Job Type : Permanent, Full Time

Salary : £40000 – £55000/annum

We are looking for a DBA who is strong on ERP software (or similar application software) and SQL Server support, for a thriving software consultancy whose head office is near Hemel Hempstead. The job is primarily home based, but you would be expected to come into the office 2 days a week, so need have a reasonable commute to the area.

The software here is a SQL server, .Net framework ERP solution and it is highly configurable, user friendly and has all the bells and whistles and loads of functionality. This ERP consultancy recently acquired a competitor company who were experts in SQL, and had built lots of SQL integration and fancy bits into their ERP software, but they have no third line support person currently who can do the SQL support, so the clients end up calling the Implementation Consultants for help. This is where you will step in.

This role is about optimising existing databases and optimising queries – figuring out why things are running slowly and being a real SQL expert, especially a SQL scripting expert. So you need to be strong on SQL queries, joins, stored procedures, statements, and SQL triggers and Transact SQL. And you need to have worked with ERP solutions, or something similar like dealer management, construction software, merchants' solutions, MRP, fleet management, etc.

You will support the complex SQL aspects of the ERP software which involves SQL joins & scripting, working on SQL code and an understanding of object orientated logic. Plus the more complex support aspects of the ERP software. This job would suit someone who is used to working on an existing SQL Server database that has a huge number of reports, BI, dash boarding and scripts running. The job is not about installing new databases, it is database administration and support.

You need previous experience working with an ERP type solution and should be familiar with the core functionality of business, such as stock, distribution, warehousing, accounts, ecommerce etc. You don't need to be a business guru, but you do need to understand how an order gets processed. So if your experience has been in a purely scientific environment for example, or something outside normal commercial business, you will probably have too much to learn.

They have a busy, fast paced support team of 10 people which you will be part of, and you will be the company SQL Server expert and will have a chance to mentor and train the other Application Support Consultants in SQL. Hopefully you are a good client / colleague communicator, and you have the ability to see the whole picture and think laterally to find solutions. You are a stickler for doing the documentation that supports issue resolution and detail root cause analysis to aid in the prevention of recurring issues.

To do this job well you will enjoy working with a team of Support Consultants and helping them to grow and learn about the SQL Server environment and get better at troubleshooting SQL scripts. Contact Jake King or Carolyn MacLurg at Ambis Resourcing to find out more
