Senior Elec/Avionics Systems Engineer – Electrical Power & Distribution Systems
Summary of Role:
We have an opportunity for an individual to join our Airborne Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (AISR) business in support of the delivery of complex mission systems.
The Senior Electrical/Avionics Systems Engineer – Electrical Power & Distribution Systems is required to undertake a key role within the Aircraft Systems Design Team of Raytheon’s AISR business, supporting the design, build and certification of multiple aircraft projects across all Raytheon AISR sites.
The work of the Aircraft Systems Design Team includes providing technical solutions and developing modifications to both military and civil aircraft. This can include the introduction of new aircraft avionic or mission systems, electrical power generation and distribution as well as RF equipment.
This role is ideally suited to a senior aircraft electrical or avionic engineer with industry related experience in supporting the design, production support and certification of multiple aircraft projects.
Responsible for the design of Electrical Power & Distribution System solutions to meet system requirements (both certification and customer), including specification of equipment and the development of the platform integration solution.
Taking ownership of aircraft modification packages throughout the entire engineering design lifecycle.
Customer liaison to develop customer concepts and capture requirements.
Liaison with Original Equipment Manufacturers and other suppliers to specify and gather detailed understanding and suitable documentation to facilitate detailed installation/ integration design of 3rd party equipment and/or systems.
Analysis of systems design issues, determination of actions.
Presentation of concepts, system designs and modifications internally and externally.
Production of technical documentation including but not limited to: System Design Documents, ICDs, System Architecture & Circuit Diagrams, Equipment/System Specifications, Test Schedules & Reports.
Liaison with the Production Organisation to solve problems arising during system installation and test.
Liaison with Test/ Production Engineers and the Flight Test Department to complete test regimes as required.
Production of modification documentation and subsequent certification of the resulting modification with CAA, EASA, MAA or other agencies as appropriate. Liaison with Certification Authorities as required.
Supporting the Engineering Managers and Business Development personnel in the preparation of bids and proposals for future business.
Systems Engineering experience developing aerospace products and systems through all of the following; Requirements Capture, Analysis, Architecture, Modelling, Design & Development, Integration, Verification and Validation, Certification of civil or military systems.
Experience in the design, integration and certification of aircraft avionic or electrical systems in either civil or military environments.
Knowledge of Electrical power generation & distribution system design including the following: batteries, inverters, convertors, circuit breakers, relays, generators and motors.
Wide knowledge of current avionic systems, and aircraft power generation & distribution systems.
Experience of working within a multi-discipline engineering team within the aerospace industry across the whole System Engineering life cycle.
Experience in developing technical specifications and technically managing sub-contractors for a/c modifications and/or packages of work.
Experience in planning, estimating and delivering tasks to plan.
The ability to support multiple projects and teams, adapting to changing priorities and ability to support business requirements at different locations.
Experience of working with safety critical systems and the safety assessment process.
Knowledge of civil modification and certification processes, including knowledge of EASA/ FAA certification requirements.
A logical problem solver who can operate effectively under stretching project constraints, and is able to work within agreed timescales.
Eligible for or holder of current SC security clearance (RSL will sponsor as required).
Experience of customer facing environments.
Experience in the support of Production Organisations from within a Design Organisation.
Knowledge of military modification, certification requirements & processes.
Experience of aircraft system design including the following: aircraft databus protocols, built in test, control & protection functions, electronics & firmware/software and EMC.
Experience in leading and developing Engineering teams.
Degree or equivalent in Electrical, Electronic, Aerospace or Avionic engineering, Physics or similar scientific discipline.
