Our client is one of the leading family-owned plant businesses in Europe. Due to their continuous growth and development, they are seeking to employ a Despatch Manager at their Wisbech St Mary’s site, to start as soon as possible.

This is a permanent role offering a competitive salary.

Hours will be 39 hours per week, Sunday – Thursday during Peak season (February to July) and Monday to Friday during off peak season.

Holidays – 24 days + Bank Holidays

Purpose of the role:

Reporting to the Transport & Logistics Manager this role is to manage all aspects of the Despatch process to deliver quality product on time and in full to our customers across the UK and Ireland, while managing the team to deliver measured output expectations.

Role & Duties:

Direct Report for 3 Department Supervisors and up to 100 staff

Manage team pro-actively and flexibly to deliver various measured efficiency targets and to change existing systems and processes if required.

Motivate and manage reports during demanding seasonal peaks, including communicating deadlines, paperwork control and equipment provision

Monitor and control the labour costs within the despatch operation

Ensure that Despatch deadlines are achieved

Liaise with Transport Manager to ensure truck departure plans are met and communicated

Co-ordinate with production managers to organize peak labour demand requirements for the despatch department

Liaise with HR manager to manage attendance and time keeping of both direct reports and the despatch teams

Ensure that all employees and visitors comply with company H & S policies

Monitor and manage the quality of products despatched to ensure customer satisfaction

Produce Delivery notes for all products leaving site

Train new and seasonal employees into despatch processes

Hygiene and cleanliness of the despatch area and areas of the nursery where despatch team are working

Requirements for the role:

Horticultural experience required based on previously working in a fast moving and dynamic environment

Good organizational skills & the ability to work under pressure

Experience in managing people and the confidence to direct and discipline as appropriate

PC and web-based IT applications including MS Excel and Word

Flexible approach to working hours
