We are working with a Playground and Outdoor Classroom Equipment company based in Northampton who design, supply, and install a wide range of playground and outdoor classroom solutions for Schools, Nurseries, Academies, Parks, Open Spaces, Sports and Games areas across the UK and are looking to expand the team by employing two new Junior Product Designers who will be working in the new product development team which is tasked with the full playground equipment product design lift cycle from concept through manufacturing to installation on site
You will be joining an established and award-winning design team within a Playground and Outdoor Classroom Equipment company that has been established for over 20 years and is passionate about what they do.
As the Junior Product Designer, you will with initial training and ongoing support:
* Be involved in concept generation, product development, costing, specifying, and sourcing, 3D CAD development, 2D technical drawings and assembly instructions, BOM creation, data management and supplier relationships.
* Ensuring all products are compliant with the relevant test standards, including project managing and external test procedures.
* Working closely with external partners and suppliers to ensure that the most suitable equipment on offer is utilised.
* Ensuring that all new innovations and product developments are communicated with other departments so that for example the sales team know the key selling points, the operations team understand the build and ground preparation requirements etc.,
* Maintaining and updating your own knowledge related to technical playground layout and design (BS EN1176 and 1177) gaining and using your understanding of safety requirements including critical fall heights, free and falling spaces, entrapments, barriers, guard rails and means of access.
* Researching current and emerging design trends using market feedback, client preference and competitor analysis to ensure that the company stays at the leading edge of product development.
As the Junior Product Designer, you will need:
* To be an experienced and proficient user of Fusion 360 and/or Inventor.
* A Product or Industrial Design Degree and a minimum of one years experience working as a Product Designer in a technical product design role that ideally has been through to manufacture so you understand technical drawings, bill of assembly etc.,
* To be highly organised with good multi-tasking abilities, able to deliver multiple design projects concurrently and to work to tight deadlines.
* To be an innovative and creative thinker particularly in terms of the technical and engineering development of product designs from concept through to production.
* To be self-motivated with a positive attitude, consider yourself dynamic and have the creative vision and flair to be successful in this role.
* To have the commercial awareness needed with an understanding and acceptance of the business of product design.
* To be able to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
* Strong presentation, sketching, communication, organisational planning, prioritizing and project management skills with knowledge of product materials and industrial manufacturing processes, good technical drawing and instruction generating experience and be proficient in using excel.
