Design and Technology Technician – Information about the role

Tempest Resourcing are seeking a Design Technology technician for a Secondary school in Southwark to provide support to both the staff and students in the department.

The candidate will be expected to organise, deliver and develop technical support to the Design Technology Department in order to support the range of DT subjects offered by the department.

Design and Technology Technician – Skills and Experience

The perfect candidate will have previous experience as a Design Technology Technician within a school and be comfortable to take overall responsibility for the technical support in the Design Technology Department.

If the candidate has not worked in a school before it is preferred that they have a strong background in design and crafting, with knowledge of different machinery and devices.

The candidate is required to have a high standard of written and oral communication (Minimum Grade C – GCSE English and Maths)

Design and Technology Technician – Main responsibilities

To support the academic staff within the Design and Technology Department in their work with pupils across all key stages of the curriculum as directed by the Head of Department.

To co-ordinate the preparation of materials and machinery in good time for classroom activities to take place in the allocated time frame.

To ensure the working environment within the Design and Technology Department remains safe and in line with Health and Safety legislation and school and departmental policies.

Assist with the implementation of the health and safety policy at the direction of the Head of Department to ensure the provision of a safe working environment for students at all times.

To set up equipment, tools and materials for specific lessons as directed by the department staff in a timely manner.

Organise tools and equipment, ensuring tools are racked and labelled correctly.

Place and receive orders at the direction of the Head of Department in an orderly and timely manner, and advise the Head of Department of any stock requirements in good time.
