Avocet Staffing are looking to recruit and experienced Arboretum Team Leader to work with my client at their expansive site in Barway, Ely.

My client is the largest container tree nursery in Europe with other 350 acres of Nursery containing over 125,000 trees. They are the proud holders of two Royal Warrants and are also certified to ISO 14001 & the Plant Healthy Standard. They are currently developing a Visitor Centre and Arboretum on their main site in Ely, Cambridgeshire which is due to open in early 2024.

Role Summary

This role will involve managing a small team of gardeners on a day-to-day basis in all aspects of Horticulture. They will also be assisting the Arboretum Manager with the initial set-up of the Arboretum involving delivering a comprehensive planting plan as well as bringing ideas and previous experience to develop an engaging experience for our visitors. They will be responsible for leading their team to deliver this daily.

Flexibility in working hours and location is anticipated to accommodate for the demands of the business throughout the year. The role is a full-time position, and you will be required to work 37.5 hours per week, 5 days out of 7.

General duties

* Working closely with the Arboretum Manager to deliver required workload.

* Planning daily Team workload.

* Daily management of Team including briefings.

* Looking after newly planted and existing stock.

* Completing daily checks on children’s play area.

* Maintaining excellent Horticultural standards throughout the year.

* Supporting the day-to-day Management of the Kiosk & Ticket Office.

* To lead the team buy displaying an excellent level of Customer Service.

* Support Customers and the Arboretum Team with any sales queries.

* Manage the Plant Centre to a high standard.

* Manage daily vehicle inspections.

* Provide support to all other departments where required.

* Adherence to H&S requirements.

* Adherence to the Bio Security Procedure.

* Reporting of any Environmental incidents to EMR.

* Displaying the relevant client basics.

Required skills and knowledge

* Excellent Plant Knowledge and Husbandry.

* Proven track record of Team Management.

* NVQ level 3 or equivalent in horticulture.

* Minimum 3 years relevant experience in Horticulture.

* Clear understanding of relevant H&S legislation.

* Formal training in manual handling and risk assessment.

* Valid Driving Licence.

* Sound knowledge and experience of using garden machinery.

* PA1 / PA6 trained.
