Application Support ERP, SQL, SQL Server

Job Type : Permanent, Full Time

Salary : £40000 – £55000/annum

We are still looking for an Application Support Consultant with good SQL Support, SQL scripting, and application support of ERP software (or similar such as accounting or field service solutions, property software, workforce management, MRP, construction software, DMS or automotive software etc.).

This is a key role with an award winning ERP software consultancy, based in between Hemel Hempstead, Bourne End and Harpenden. Starting salary to £55k. There will be a mix of 2 to 3 days working from home or 2 to 3 days from the office, so you need to live in reasonable commuting distance of the Hemel Hempstead, Bourne End area.

The software is a SQL Server, .Net framework ERP solution and it is highly configurable, user friendly and has all the bells and whistles. They recently acquired a competitor company who were experts in SQL, and had built lots of SQL integration and fancy bits into their ERP software, but they have no third line support person currently who can do the SQL support, so the clients end up calling the Consultants for help. This is where you will step in. As a company of around 150 staff, they have 5 people in their support team, and a team leader, and in the summer they will be growing the team and structuring it as 1st, 2nd and 3rd Line Support.

This job is to support the complex SQL aspects of the ERP software. So it involves SQL joins, SQL Scripting, working on SQL code and an understanding of object orientated logic. Plus the more complex support aspects of the ERP software. There are about 15 calls a day from a base of 200 clients. For larger more complex projects, there are 5 Implementation Consultants who are really good at SQL, so they are able to take data from disparate systems and write scripts that make it all work. Once the project goes live, the clients call the support desk and those queries will now come to the person taking on this role. So your background will be SQL Server, DBA experience and ERP or similar application support.

The customers have their own IT departments, so the calls are really 2nd line, and it is rare to have a quick 10 minute fix. The role involves dealing with difficult situations and having to deal with unhappy clients at times. Sometimes it will be the ERP software at fault and sometimes it will be the client causing their own problems unknowingly, or a mixture of both. The work is very interesting and involved and you will own your calls and work through the issues independently. The product is written in C# and .Net with SQL Server so you will be exposed to that technology and an interest in .Net would be good. If you are keen on increasing your development skills they will fund training courses for you to study software development and coding.

They have recently won a top award beating Microsoft Dynamics and many others, and have been approved as a supplier to a buying group that represents over 500 business in the UK. The company is growing and there is a positive vibe here, people are optimistic about their careers and their future. In Q1 of 2020 they had a record quarter and in April 2020 they maintained over 50% utilization of the consulting team, they have not needed to furlough any of their staff and continue to operate at full capacity. In addition they signed 2 new deals, one for 50 users and one for 130 users in April and May 2020 and they have more than 10 new orders for the smaller SaaS based self-implemented solution.

What is interesting is that you will be dealing with issues covering all modules of the ERP software, from finance, to CRM, Ecommerce, stock control, warehousing, and distribution, sales and purchasing and much more. So when you take a support call you will need to figure out what and where the issue is, talking to the client in depth and really trying to understand their issues.

So the most important personal skill is to be able to listen to people, understand the problem, be empathetic and look for ways to move things forward.

Superb role in a great company – contact Jake King or Carolyn MacLurg at Ambis Resourcing to find out more
